I’ve put “Hills & Mountains” and “Walking & Hiking” into separate sections on this website. The difference isn’t important but in the first my objective was to reach the tops of hills or mountains and in the second the enjoyment came from the journey itself.
From 1999 until 2010 I was a walking leader for the holiday company HF Holidays. I used to lead 3 or 4 weeks a year in the UK and Europe, mostly in places they describe as “mountain and moorland”. You’ll find a few references to these holidays on the website, but I don’t generally write about them because of business and customer confidentiality.
Since late 2006 I’ve been a member of the LDWA, the Long Distance Walkers’ Association — specifically the Thames Valley Group. The Group organises social walks most Sundays of the year, covering about 18 miles (29km) in the winter months, 20 miles (32km) in the summer. I try to do one of these walks regularly if not necessarily frequently.
