Life on the Edge by Jim Al-Khalili & Johnjoe McFadden
Jim Al-Khalili and Johnjoe McFadden explore the role quantum weirdness might play in many processes in living organisms – avian navigation, the sense of smell, photosynthesis and more. The scientific evidence is growing, although as they themselves acknowledge their conclusions and hypotheses are still speculative. I’m sure we’ll hear more about this relatively new branch of science over the coming decades.
The book is mercifully free of any of the mathematics of quantum physics but I think readers with some previous exposure to the ideas and concepts of quantum mechanics would do better than a complete novice.
