Not Won in a Day by Bennett, Jack
As ticklists go, visiting the highest point in each state in the USA is one of the more bizarre. Those who follow this obsession are Highpointers. Jack Bennett is one such who, having completed the USA round, turned his attention to the highpoints of every Canadian province – a challenge no-one had previously completed. This is his account, spread over six years. In keeping with the highpointer spirit, his quest takes him to a potato field on Prince Edward Island and a pancake-flat meadow in Saskatchewan. It also takes him to some of the wildest and remotest peaks in the Canadian arctic, involving ski- and float-plane landings, glacier treks, whitewater canoeing and expedition-style mountaineering. In the first half of the book Bennett tells the stories of his own ascents. In the second part he covers the same ground in guidebook style, giving comprehensive access and logistical detail for those who follow.
