Pushing the boundaries

tonyturton.com Posted on 8 August 2016 by Tony7 October 2024

Having managed a couple of 40 mile rides in July without any problems, I rode 57 miles yesterday. Here’s the route (it doesn’t show the extra distance from home to the start/finish). The ride went well. A strong westerly wind … Continue reading →

Slow progress, but still progress

tonyturton.com Posted on 16 May 2016 by Tony7 October 2024

I’ve not been doing as much cycle training as I’d hoped, but there’s still 4 months to the BikeOxford 80 mile sportive I’ve set as my target for this year. It’s partly because I’ve been messing with the bike trying … Continue reading →

Signed up for a Sportive

tonyturton.com Posted on 4 March 2016 by Tony30 April 2018

Oh dear. I’ve signed up to ride the BikeOxford sportive on 11 September. The 80 mile route. I can’t remember the last time I rode that far in one day, but it was a VERY long time ago. The closest I’ve come in recent times was 100km (62.5 miles) back in August 2014, which was the target I’d set myself to earn a new bike. I duly bought my carbon fibre frame Colnago that Autumn and have been riding it since then. It’s got red handlebar tape now, by the way.

Colnago

I’ve hardly ridden at all over the winter so my training will be starting from a very low level. I should be able to get up to riding 40 miles comfortably without too much trouble, and I’ll work up from there. I’ll report here on progress from time to time. Wish me luck!
