Walking & hiking
I've put "Mountaineering & Hillwalking" and "Walking" into separate sections on this website. I don't think the difference is important but I've distinguished between ventures where the objective is to reach the tops of hills or mountains and those where the enjoyment comes from the journey itself, whether over a single day or a longer trip.
Since late 2006 I've been a member of the LDWA, the Long Distance Walkers' Association - specifically the Thames Valley Group. The Group organises social walks most Sundays of the year, covering about 18 miles (29km) in the winter months, 20 miles (32km) in the summer. I try to do one of these walks regularly if not necessarily frequently. There's plenty of information on their website (for which I'm the Webmaster) and on the national Association's website.
My other involvement in organised walking is as a walking leader for the holiday company HF Holidays. I started leading for them in 1999 and genarally aim to lead 3 or 4 weeks a year. I lead in the UK and Europe, mostly in places they describe as "mountain and moorland". You'll find a few references to these holidays on my website, but I don't generally write about them out of respect for business and customer confidentiality.
